Strange that this was the final chapter in the series. Virtual Hydlide doesn't exist... plus it's only a 3D remake of the first game, right?Zenic Reveriehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16441583549326102945noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4946916641850178817.post-16698831277608517952016-09-21T05:06:12.787-07:002016-09-21T05:06:12.787-07:00Its actually worth noting that in Japan, this game...Its actually worth noting that in Japan, this game came out in 1987. Just a year after Zelda and I honestly think this is a much better game than Zelda1. The Megadrive\Genesis version is little more than a spruced up 8-bit game (and it shows).

The ending is also missing nearly all the next from the original release, too. Kinda kills it.

Still a fair review, though. Looking ahead it had some really interesting ideas, especially for a game made in '87. The MD\Gens version deserved more work than it got, sadly.

The sequel - Virtual Hydlide. Is a sin against gaming. Its awful.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4946916641850178817.post-57236733352021880512013-07-11T08:59:23.381-07:002013-07-11T08:59:23.381-07:00It's interesting to see the graphical hit an a...It's interesting to see the graphical hit an already graphically light game takes between 8 and 16 bit.Zenic Reveriehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16441583549326102945noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4946916641850178817.post-61574180709770461662013-07-04T20:34:53.672-07:002013-07-04T20:34:53.672-07:00I guess if you wanted to see the Famicom version i...I guess if you wanted to see the Famicom version in action you could check out the brief section in Chrontendo episode 42 where he covers the game.

http://youtu.be/z5p3p1L0nig?t=41m54s

It may have done alright over here.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11560711373831583403noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4946916641850178817.post-80300314926653316232013-07-04T15:06:44.565-07:002013-07-04T15:06:44.565-07:00I agree with this summary; "somewhat enjoyabl...I agree with this summary; "somewhat enjoyable but bland game" encapsulates my experience. This could have been a very good game on the NES, but with the name Hydlide I'm fairly sure sales would have been very bad.Zenic Reveriehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16441583549326102945noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4946916641850178817.post-47428696540325533752013-07-01T20:25:25.878-07:002013-07-01T20:25:25.878-07:00I think this is a pretty fair assesment. This is so much better its not worth comparing. After all this is really Hydlide 3 in Japan. I think its an ok game with faults. Its certainly not the horrible game people make it out to be but it isnt cutting edge eigther. To me it was a somewhat enjoyable but bland game. Certainly not one of the great or even above memorable RPG's of the 16 bit era. (I think this game may have actually had a Famicom release in Japan only as well.)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11560711373831583403noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4946916641850178817.post-40361364222977030432013-07-01T05:37:09.964-07:002013-07-01T05:37:09.964-07:00Honestly? It's a better score than I expected - though to be fair, I've never played this version, just the NES version, which was amazingly bad.Chalgyrhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10879608925209948366noreply@blogger.com
