Updating the List

Well I said I was going to do it, and I finally did. I've added to the list, the Intellivision, Colecovision, and Atari games that I might be enjoying shortly as well as some games coming from the Youtube user Seedy Gamer list I mentioned in a previous post. It seems he's not posted a video in quite some time. From his list I did cut the solely online games, and those not released in the US. Sadly, I fear many of the games he suggested as RPGs won't make the cut for my list.

  1. This is indeed a "RPG" list in the largest of senses. Nice list, though, and some of them are great games.

But if you play The Legacy of Kain, avoid the PSN version at all costs!!! (this is too horrible to remember my own experience)

    1. Most likely not going to play it. I'd weighed it on the scale previously when I considered it (it's a good game). I will avoid the PSN version, I remember your experience getting stuck. I have PSX version in any case.

  2. Wow. I would think most of those games wouldnt make the cut. Many are action games with RPG elements. (And considering what hasn't made the cut so far I think alot of those games on the list even more so wouldn't)

  3. Anonymous, I was having the same thought. I love the 2D Zeldas and the two Startropics games, but I'm not sure you can really call either of them "rpgs". (I tend to think that the Mario & Luigi series is the most action-y you can get and still be an rpg.)

If you like the rest of the Mana series, Dawn of Mana will disappoint you. When Crystal Chronicles took off as action/rpgs, SquareEnix started trying to find other genres to put the Mana series in. Most of them didn't work very well.

    1. I know I originally left Dawn of Mana off because it looked more like an action adventure game. At least it'll get one post if anything. It's always nice to round out a series that I expect to play for a number of games.

I'm expecting to cut the Startropics games as soon as I'm done with Miracle Warriors. This'll at least get me caught up on my normal cuts. It seems I'll be cutting many of the Intellivision, Colecovision, and Atari 2600 games as well. They're just too primitive to score well on the RPG rating scale.

  4. I agree. I'll most likely just cut the majority of these games, but SeedyGamer thought enough to include them in his RPG console lists so I'll consider them and at least address them in one post.

  5. Why are the NES Macventure ports on that list? They're not RPGs by a longshot, just text adventures.

    1. Yes, I questioned even adding them, but they're on that list and I have a fondness of them. They'll probably get one below the cut post for all of them. Really, when I say most of these games will get cut, I mean over 90% of them.

  6. This is a pretty interesting list of RPGs. Some of those, I'm assuming, are really really old - I'm seeing things like the Atari and the NES!

But still, I agree with the others on that some of them aren't really RPGs.

    1. Yes, some of the really old ones are dating back to 1982. I think the only one so far I could call and RPG at quick glance is Tower of Doom. I need to take a second look at all of them though before I make the posts to cut them from the list.

  7. Giauz (because I love my Kindle and Google and OpenID can go to hell)

'King Arthur and the Knights of Justice?' I WAS SO INTO THAT CARTOON! I STILL GEEK OUT WHEN WATCHING THE OPENING THEME ON YOUTUBE!!!

    1. I would watch that cartoon all the time too. I don't remember it having a proper ending. It's sad when the creators didn't have time to wrap up the story. Of course, in many cases that never seemed like the actual goal of cartoon series.

    2. Taking a look at the game, I don't think I'll be playing it. It looks like another action adventure game wrapped with a story and some NPCs. I'll have to take a closer look when I get closer to playing it though.
